Mailer: The Bat! (ban it or not?)

Most of my spam comes from users of "The Bat!" mailer client. Check "show original" in Gmail and look for "X-Mailer: The Bat! (v3.51.10) UNREG " etc.
I do not recall every getting legitimate email from anyone who uses "The Bat!" and I do not know anyone who uses it or would want to use it for anything except spam.

I believe it is really only built for spam, mass mail and obfuscation (you have to pay for the program too, who pays for this kind of email program unless they need to bypass regular systems?). - does anyone disagree?

I am considering a blanket ban of all "The Bat!" email on my domains using filters.

TheBat!

TheBat! from RIM is a very sophisticaed email client. In particular it's email filtering is superb. My experience with spam is that people send it and that spammers have very little need to filter incoming mail elaborately. It also happily searches quickly through my 200000 message database on up to 4 fields at once.

It is probably the best email client around.

Unfortunately a lot of people, including I'm afraid killpharm, don't understand about forged headers, and one popular bit of spamming software, Advanced Mass Sender, lets you set a forged header with The Bat! in it.

The licence for TheBat! says:
* The supply or promotion of the program for the purpose of sending bulk, unsolicited e-mail is incompatible with the basic aims of the program, which revolve around the free provision of a service that enhances the quality of communication between people.
* The program may not be used for the purpose of sending bulk Unsolicited Commercial Electronic Mail. For the purposes of this section, this shall be construed to mean electronic mail sent to a total of more than 50 recipients for the purpose of advertising a commercial product or service, where the recipient has not explicitly expressed interest in receiving such advertisements.
* The program may not be included in any package designed for sending bulk unsolicited e-mail, whether free or otherwise, nor may vendors of such packages use "The Bat!" trademark or other related material in the promotion of their package. The senders of bulk unsolicited e-mail are prohibited from using "The Bat!" trademark in either body or headers of such unsolicited e-mail messages.

I can't imagine why anyone would buy The Bat! to spam.

Re: TheBat!

Why don't I believe any of that?

PharmaMaster is a jerk. Regulation of the internet prevents the majority (angry users) from kicking the arse of the minority (millionaire spammers).
